Comics Plus Authentication Options

We have several authentication methods available to you!

School Authentication Options

Understand the Information Bar connected to each Method
Each authentication method has an information bar indicating the "Ease of Set Up" and the "Security Strength" of each method. 
  1. For Ease of Set Up - the higher the number, the easier this method is to use and set up. 
  2. For Security Strength - the higher the number, the more secure the method type is. 



 

Registration Code Authentication (Default)

Ease of Set Up: 5 | Security Strength: 2

Registration Code allows you to send your School/Library's Comics Plus website URL and unique code out to all staff, students, parents, and/or patrons. Once they enter the code they will be prompted to create their own Comics Plus account with 2 simple fields 1. username and 2. password. This allows students/patrons to be able to log in and sign up from anywhere! Once they create a login they will no longer need to use the registration code.


Registration Code Using School/Library Specific URL Sign-In Steps

The user will need to access the Comics Plus website from the URL provided in the on-boarding email

1. Click on "Sign-Up Now!"



2. From here you should see your School/Library's name and a field to enter a registration code. Once the correct code is entered, the 2 field prompts will appear allowing the user to create their account. 




3. You're now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

Registration Code Using School/Library Look Up Method Sign-In Steps

This process has more steps than the one above. If you would like your School/Library's Comics Plus website URL, contact our Support Team by submitting a ticket and we will get that to you asap!  
How Do I Submit A Ticket?


1. Go to the link:https://library.librarypass.com/  Click "LOG IN" in the top right corner. 



2. From here you should see a search bar titled "Search for library/school:". Type in the name of your library/school and select it from the drop down menu. 



3. You will now need to click "Sign-Up Now!". This will take you back to the library/school look up page, and on last time you will need to search for your library/school name and choose it from the drop down menu.



4. You should now see the "Registration Code field". Once the correct code is entered, the 2 field prompts will appear allowing the user to create their account. 




5. You're now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

Referrer Login

Ease of Set Up: 3 | Security Strength: 4

Schools and libraries can have their Comics Plus URL placed on the inside of a student or patron account. The website they access the school/library Comics Plus account from will be used as the authenticator. The user will then create an account create an account and have access to the collection. 
 

Referrer Login Sign-In steps:

The user will access the library's unique Comics Plus website URL provided in the on-boarding email 


1.Click "Sign Up Now!" at the bottom of the log in page.



2. Enter a username and password to create the account, and you are now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

IP Authentication / EZ Proxy

Ease of Set Up: 1 | Security Strength: 5

IP Authentication and EZ Proxy allow the school or library to authenticate using their IP Addresses. EZ Proxy allows for remote access to a school or libraries IP Address. 


IP Auth Sign-In steps:

The user must access the school/library's Comics Plus site while in the building/using the school/library's IP Address


1. You must be within the School/Library to access and create your account. 
Click "Sign Up Now!" at the bottom of the log in page.



2. Enter a username and password to create the account, and you are now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

EZ Proxy Sign-In steps:

The user must access the school/library's Comics Plus site school/library's website(s) with the approved IP Address(s)


1. Click on the URL/Button for Comics Plus on your School/Library's website.
Click "Log In" in the top right hand corner



2. Click "Sign Up Now!" at the bottom of the log in page.


3. Enter an Email address and Password to create your account. 



4. You are now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

Google OAuth Authentication 

Ease of Set Up: 3 | Security Strength: 5

Google OAuth allows users to access the CPLE website with the “sign in with Google” prompt. Users must use their school/library assigned Gmail account to access the CPLE website. 
 

Google OAuth Sign-In steps:

The user will access the library's unique Comics Plus website URL provided in the on-boarding email

1. Click the "Sign In With Google" Button



2. Select your School/library's email account



3. You're now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

SAML

Ease of Set Up: 1 | Security Strength: 5

SAML authentication allows students to log into their existing school portal and directly visit your Comics Plus website link with no additional login steps.

User Managed

Ease of Set Up: 3 | Security Strength: 4

User Managed authentication allows you to manually enter or batch upload a .csv file of users you would like to grant access to your CPLE website. Individual users can be added, managed, or deleted by the CPLE library administrator(s) at any time.

User Managed Sign-In steps:

The user will access the library's unique Comics Plus website URL provided in the on-boarding email

1. Enter the Username and Password given to you by your school or library. 



2. You're now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

Shared Username and Password 

Ease of Set Up: 5 | Security Strength: 1

Shared Username and Password allows all users to use the same username and password, as defined by you, to access your CPLE website. While this allows for a simple explanation of login instructions, users will be unable to utilize features such as "My Shelf" which gives patrons access to currently and previously read titles. It also skews the usage data as one can no longer differentiate between users.

Direct ILS Authentication (SIP2 & Patron API)

Ease of Set Up: 1 | Security Strength: 5

If your library uses an authentication service such as SIP2 LibraryPass can authenticate users against your existing ILS database. Once you enable LibraryPass access to authenticate via your ILS, a library user can log into your library’s Comics Plus website or app with his or her library card number and have instant access to thousands of titles!

SIP2 & Patron API Sign-In Steps

The user will access the library's unique Comics Plus website URL provided in the on-boarding email

1. Enter your Library Card Number and Pin (if it asks for a Pin). If it does not ask for a Pin only enter you Library Card Number. 


2.You are now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!

Prefix 

Ease of Set Up: 2 | Security Strength: 1

This authentication method uses the prefix of your library card format to authenticate users. It is easy to set up and easy to explain to patrons. All they need is their active library card number! 


Prefix Sign-In steps:

Users will only need their library card number to create and account. 
The user will access the library's unique Comics Plus website URL provided in the on-boarding email

1. Enter your Library Card Number and Pin (if it asks for a Pin). The first time you log in you will be creating your Pin. If it does not ask for a Pin only enter you Library Card Number.

MackinVia LTI

Ease of Set Up: 1 | Security Strength: 5

If your school uses MackinVia we can integrate directly with their platform!  User will not need to create an account, they will log in through their school MackinVia account and have instant access to their own Comics Plus account!

User will not need to create an account, they will log in through their school MackinVia account. 


1. Log into your MackinVia account and click on "Databases"



2. Scroll down and find "Comics Plus Library Edition" and click "Open Now"

       


3. You're now logged in and ready to read thousands of Comic Books and Graphic Novels!
